We went to see the Tapumes exhibit by Henrique Oliveira at Rice Gallery today. It's a huge installation in a single-room gallery. Oliveira constructs the tapumes or tri-dimensionals (check out more about him here) out of scrap wood that he paints and bends into various shapes and designs. It's a really interesting exhibit (all the better that it was free), simultaneously pleasing to the eye and a bit disorienting. The photos don't do it justice; size is integral to what he has done at Rice Gallery.
